Art In Nature
Art does not form in nature though art mimics nature. Art only comes into existence when the human mind registers and denotes it as art. Art is a state of mentality by human creation. We may say ‘that sunset is beautiful’ but that is only because we perceive it by our American and Human ideals as beauty. Animals do not value beauty—they do not have the theory or philosophy to contemplate or recognize such intellect. Back to Human to American ideals—different cultures from across the world regard different things as beauty. Individuals do too. Every individual has a different sense of taste—both visually and by tongue—so as one individual may like the taste of Gefilte fish—another may not. Just the same, when someone sees a black cat—in some cultures cats—black cats even—may be holy, sacred, and beautiful—whereas in others black cats may be symbols of bad luck. Therefore, in nature where I may perceive a dead swamp as beautiful, someone else may visually perceive it on a different mental value and see it as putrid. Another example: I find flies to be cute, whereas others find them to be gross. So—art itself is only by the viewer to the natural. The viewer makes the natural form into art or a work of art. On its own existence form in nature is just that—something natural. Therefore ‘art’ is dependent on the viewer. Just like color, the form exists—only by how the viewer perceives the form does it become art.
